Snow - again???
I just captured this outside of our bedroom window. It's been snowing off and on for 2 days. This state is so weird.
Run/Walk for Burma
Here's Ross and our friend Tom. They were "orange buddies" at the Walk/Run for Burma. Our church held the event to raise funds and awareness for the situation in a place many people don't even know is on the map. Please visit www.freeburmarangers.org to learn more. The people there really need our prayers.
The Plymouth
This was a highlight of our trip for Ross. He has been waiting some 25 years for his dad to finish this car. We were finally able to take it out for a drive, rumble seat and all. It's a 1931 Plymouth. I don't get much into cars. But this thing was pretty cool. What was even more cool was seeing the smiles on Ross's and Ken's faces as we drove around town. Perma-grins.
Basque
Most people have never heard of it. But if you live in Bakersfield, it is no doubt a staple. People love Basque food! The Basque people came from the Pyrenees mountains between Spain and France. How they ended up in Bakersfield, I'm really not sure. And let me say - they eat some funky food. The traditional "setup" that comes with dinner includes salad, salsa, beans, bread, cow tongue, spaghetti and french fries. I have yet to brave the tongue, but Ross loves it, as does his family. All the Burdettes (Emma is with cousins Madison and Donovan above) commandeered 3 tables at "Pyrenees" and chowed down.
Dewars
Dewars 3 times in 2 days. Not smart - but oh so good. Elena was the only one bold enough to show what that does to a person (on top of Basque food too!)
John's Incredible Pizza - or not

Or, should we say ... John's NOT so incredible pizza. Don't get me wrong. It is a pretty cool place - definitely a step up from Chuck-E-Cheese. Our girls were SO excited to go again while in B-town. But one of the prizes Emma won (one of those hand propelled helicopter kind of things) ended up launching into Emma's eye the day before we left town. This is the only picture she let me take with her and her patch (hiding under her glasses on the left side). It was pretty traumatic - a cut to the iris. But eyes heal fast! She went from completely blind in one eye to seeing perfectly the very next day. Amazing.
Grandpa Pres
The Lion King
Emma's big Christmas present - tickets to the Lion King at the Paramount Theatre. This is by far one of the best lives shows we've ever seen.
Still a kid
Emma is at this funny age. She's only 7 - and still very much a kid. But we're starting to have the occassional "don't kiss me in public mom" moments. It's like she wants her face painted, yet she prefers to watch the clown from a distance. As a mother, it's hard to see your little girl growing up already. But she's still clinging onto enough of her childhood that I'm not having a breakdown yet. She still sucks her fingers at night, cannot sleep without her blanket, and LOVES her stuffed animals. I guess I should also rest in the fact that Emma is simply a great kid. She's easy to parent. She has a heart of obedience and lots of compassion for others. Thank you God for this wonderful child.
The clown
Since we were raising one, we figured we might as well invite one to the party as well. "Kimmy" came complete with balloons, face paint, magic - even a live bunny rabbit named Treasure. My sister Jodi even made a cake to match the clown! The kids also enjoyed Elena's special request - the pinata.
